I nerded out this weekend by watching every single Star Trek movie, one after another. After doing this and then getting about eight hours’ sleep, I came up with a truly dangerous idea.
I took a liter of moonshine that I had sitting around and then added a bunch of ingredients for infusing into Romulan Ale. Here is the recipe:
Minced all of the leaves. Slice the jalapenos and save the seed and pith. Remove the hard outer leaves of the lemongrass and thinly slice the pale portion of the stalks. Coarsely slice the garlic. Coarsely crack the peppercorns.
Put all of it (including the seeds from the jalapenos) into an old sterilized wine bottle and cork. Leave in a cool dark place for a week, shaking the bottle twice per day.
I am calling this bad idea “Romulan Ale.” It is a bit over 100 proof. In a week or so, I will know if it lives up to its namesake.

I love Ralph McQuarrie’s concept art as much as the next geek but his concept for the Enterprise was, in truth, terrible. This was to be the Enterprise in the first Star Trek movie “Star Trek: Planet Of The Titans.”
